A range of events will be taking place across East London to celebrate World Mental Health Day
Tower Hamlets - Get Moving/World Mental Health Day 2009 celebration
This will take place on 7 October at Mile End Leisure Centre, Burdett Road, E3 from 11am to 4pm.A day packed with activities including massage, yoga, walking, dancing, rock climbing, etc.
'Get Moving' works on the ground by bringing people together for fun social activities which promote mental and physical wellbeing for all. It will feature health trainers who will be on hand to support people in making healthy lifestyle choices.

Tower Hamlets – Strike a Pose
On Friday 9 October from 11am to 3pm, Pritchards Road Day Centre will launch their long awaited All Sorts shop with a fashion show. A range of clothes will be modelled by members of staff and service users to show the diverse range of garments available in the Allsorts shop. City and Hackney – Well-being Express
In City and Hackney, World Mental Health Day is being celebrated on 8 October from 11am till 4pm at The Round Chapel, Powerscroft Road, Hackney, E5P 0PU. See flyer
This year’s event is titled: Well-Being Express-Journey Towards Wellbeing and Recovery. An exciting showcase event which will include art and photography exhibitions, drama, dance and poetry performances, workshops, talking and complementary therapy taster sessions and other activities which recognise the many diverse pathways towards mental health well-being and recovery.
You can get to the venue via the Overground train to Hackney Downs or Hackney Centre. Local buses are 38, 56, 253, 106, D6, 30, 277, 242, 48 and 253.
Newham-Time to Change
On Monday 5 October, staff will be raising awareness of World Mental Health Day with passers-by, shoppers and commuters at Stratford Shopping Centre, handing out information and promoting the Time to Change campaign.
Newham – Ain’t Mad, Ain’t Psycho. Think about your language
On Saturday 10 October on World Mental Health Day, a free public event will take place in St John Church, Stratford Broadway provocatively called ‘Ain’t Mad, Ain’t Psycho. Think about your language.’ A response to the many damaging newspaper headlines and crude language expressed about mental illness. Click here for promotional flyer
This will be a chance for members of the public to find out about services, get free advice about their health, have taster complementary therapy sessions, visit the smoothie bar or get a temporary tattoo! There will be live entertainment. The event will run from 10am to 3pm.
Please support these local events by volunteering to help for a couple of hours, telling people you know and dropping in to see for yourself.
5th Annual WMHD PMA Football Tournament
This will take place on 5 October on the Playing Fields at Wanstead Flats from 11am - 4pm. Teams from across the country who are part of the Positive Mental Attitude football league will fight it out. Come along and support the teams. Flyer
